Robert "Mark" Hamilton age 35
Stellarton-With heavy hearts the family of Robert Mark Hamilton (a.k.a. R. Mark) announces his passing over on April 28th, 2017 at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born at the old Grace Maternity Hospital in Halifax on May 19th, 1981, he was the son of Robert and Rhonda Hamilton. Besides his parents Mark is survived by three sisters and their families. Michelle (Darren) Bellefontaine, nephew Mitchell, Cole Harbour, Janet (Gregg) MacQuarrie, nephews Reid (Chenelle) and Carson, neice Hannah, Bedford, and Rachel Hamilton (Johnny MacLean) nephew Isaac Agnew, nieces Makayla, Sylvie-Gray and Willow. He also leaves behind many grieving aunts, uncles, cousins and an amazing array of friends.
He was predeceased by grandparents Karl and Vona Porter and James and Dorothy Hamilton, also by Uncle Roy Hamilton, cousins Vance Peppard and Jonathan Hartling.
Mark was a graduate of Stellarton High School and attended University of Kings College and the Nova Scotia Community College. He was employed by Canada Post in Calgary, Ottawa, Pictou, Stellarton and New Glasgow. With close friends Mark established the first "environmental" club in G.R. Saunders school, organized the first 30 hour famine in his area for his age group, helped reestablish the Monarchy League of Pictou County, revamped the Lourdes Youth Group, campaigned against the Strip Mine in Stellarton and was president of the Conservative Youth. With his brilliant mind Mark read voraciously on all matters spiritual, political and historical.
Once Mark began working for Canada Post he became an impassioned member of CUPW and travelled to Chicago, Cuba and Panama and many areas across Canada on their behalf.
Always a seeker of truth Mark became a Socialist and believed strongly in the fight for equal rights for all, the sharing and protection of the earth’s resources and decent living conditions for everyone. If there was ever a need to protest, Mark would be eagerly organizing and participating in the protest to support good cause. It was not a rare site to see Mark driving in his little green car with protest signs piled on the seat ready for the next protest.
Mark always enjoyed lively gatherings where he delighted in a good laugh and a good argument.
Mark adored his family, his friends, his union and his cat Dixie.
Marks family is devastated but know he will always be with us. Mark was an extremely unique one of a kind and it would be impossible to ever forget him.
