Edith Fraser Edith Almira Fraser, Durham, passed away peacefully at Ivey’s Terrace Nursing Home, Trenton on Thursday, November 24th 2016. Edith was born at Elm Glen Farm, Durham on April 7th 1924, the youngest daughter of David E. and Catherine (MacDonald) MacKenzie. Edith married our father, John Murray Fraser, lifelong friend, in Durham on December 28th 1946 and they spent 66 wonderful years together. Edith graduated from New Glasgow High School and Provincial Normal College in Truro. During the 1940s, Edith taught school in Country Harbour, Durham, Liverpool and Central West River. After living in Truro, Bible Hill and Windsor, Edith, John and their four children returned to Durham in 1961 and started Frasers’ Grocery and Supply. In later years, Edith was well known as "the ice cream lady" assisting her daughter Margaret at the Durham Ice Cream Shop. Edith was very involved in church and community, having active roles in Atlantic Mission Society, Durham Ladies Guild, Durham Community Club, Pictou County Crime Prevention and Canadian Cancer Society. Edith will be deeply missed by her son Kenneth, daughters Ruth Lann and Margaret Fraser (Alan Buckler), grandchildren Ben (Mary) and great grandson Connor, Marie (Justin), Jeff, Stephanie and Samantha. Edith was predeceased by her husband John, son Robert, son-in-law Peter Lann, two sisters and three brothers. Our parents had another supportive family; wonderful caregivers, both in their home and at Ivey’s Terrace. The family will receive visitors at H. W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow on Wednesday, November 30th 1-3 and 6-8. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 1st at 2 pm at Durham Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mary Anne Grant officiating. Interment will be in Durham Cemetery following the service. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Aberdeen Health Foundation for Sandbar Mental Health Endowment, Atlantic Mission Society or Camp Geddie. www.angusfuneralhomes.com
