Edith Bernice Greene Obituary

Greene, Edith Bernice

Edith Bernice Greene of East River St Mary's passed away quietly Thursday, November 24th 2016, in New Glasgow.

Born July 21st 1930, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Myrtle Gunn. Living all her life in East River, it was

a life wholly dedicated to family, church and community. Through the years she was employed with World Vision, Sunlife

and Children's Aid. Her interests and endeavours always involved helping others. That purposeful life extended in particular

to the youth. Her life directing Vacation Bible School, teaching Sunday School and the more than twenty year leadership of

CGIT was challenged and enriched by their questioning young minds. She felt her life to be blessed having had this opportunity.

Loyal and active support was also given to CBS, Sunlight Rebekkah Lodge, WI, and through volunteering on the

Palliative Care Unit, Aberdeen Hospital. A lifelong member of Bethany United Church she was an active member of UCW serving

various positions in the local church and on a Maritime level. From an early age music was an integral part of her life singing with

her " Gunn Sisters " and their families. As church organist for over 60 years she felt honored to share her musical gifts with others

in the memorable moments of their lives. Under her musical direction, her CGIT girls recorded an album of sacred music and

following the death of her sister, Frances, she assumed the direction of the bell choir: " The Bells of St. Marys ". For many years

numerous guests enjoyed her dinner music at Liscomb Lodge. She is survived by daughters Lynda ( Norman ) Munroe, New Glasgow;

Elizabeth ( Shirley ) Greene, Willowdale; son Rev. David ( Jennifer ) Greene, Ottawa; grandchildren Stephen ( Marsha ) Greene, Nathan

( Annabelle ) Greene, Eli ( Miriam ) Dewar, Jessica ( Tyler ) Dewar, Lane ( Kelsey ) Dewar; great grandchildren Ethan, Naomi, Ben,

Hannah, Alexander, Malaika, Shay, River and Adeline, all of whom knew her as : " Bid ". Also survived by her brother James Gunn in Alberta

as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Elmer, sisters Frances, Ruth and Ethel. Special thanks to

Dr. Marion MacDonald, the caring compassionate care of the V.O.N. and the Palliative Care Team. Arrangements under the direction of

H.W. Angus Funeral Home with visitation Thursday, December first from 1 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM with funeral Friday, December second at

11:00 AM in Zion Presbyterian Church, East River St. Marys with Rev Derek Ellsworth officiating. Burial to follow in Valley View Cemetery.
