Thorburn : F. Orrie Reid age 90 of Thorburn passed away on Friday August 5th ,2016 in the Aberdeen Hospital ,New Glasgow . Born in Thorburn he was a son of the late William (Billy) and Edna (MacDonald) Reid. Orrie was a lifelong resident of Thorburn. He was a veteran of WW11 and a member of the Admiral Murray Br. of the Naval Assoc. A former coal miner in his early years Orrie went on to work for Dept of the Environment in Granton from where he retired. He was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church ,Thorburn. Orrie was a founding member and a former fire chief of the Thorburn Fire Dept. One of his favorite hobbies was fishing. Surviving are his children: Fred (Valda) Reid of Thorburn , Heather Cross (Wayne Dunbar) of Plymouth, David (Margaret ) Reid of Stewiacke and Susan (Andre’) James of Enfield 10 grandchildren and 6 great granddaughters A chosen daughter Beverly Thorne He was predeceased by his wife the former Lillian Chislett and a brother Gordon The family will receive visitors from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. on Monday in the H.W.Angus Funeral Home Funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 A.M. from Union Presbyterian Church , Thorburn with Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating Burial will be in the Thorburn Cemetery at a later date. Donations in memory of Orrie may be made to the Union Presbyterian Church or to the Veteran’s Monument Fund in Thorburn A reception will follow the service in the church hall.
