Obituary of Romayne Ross
Please share a memory of Romayne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Romayne Pryde Ross (née Macdonald) passed away peacefully on May 27, 2016 in her 88th year with her family by her side. Mum was born in Sherbrooke, Nova Scotia on November 8, 1928 to Lester and Irvis (Pryde) Macdonald and later became sister to brothers Vance and Wayne. Mum was raised in Sherbrooke, spent the war years in Halifax, returning to Sherbrooke after the war. There, she became a bank teller at the Royal Bank of Canada. Mum and Dad ventured to Toronto in 1951 and they were married in 1953. Mum continued to work for RBC in Toronto until she became "mum" in 1956. Mum is survived by her children Barry (Sue Beatty), Greg and Jennifer (Nick Mason). Lovingly remembered as "Grammie" by her granddaughter Jess.
George Peck Public School PTA, United Church Women (UCW) and many quilt guilds kept mum very active in her community. While mum loved to play piano, she is best described as a "fabric artist" – her skills as a quilter and rug hooker are well known, with most anyone she knew now cherishing one of her works of art. She was predeceased by her two younger brothers and her husband of 62 years, John Ross.
Mum will be laid to rest in her beloved Sherbrooke. Services will be held at St. John's United Church, Sherbrooke, on June 11th at 1 p.m. with her burial and reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the Historic Sherbrooke Village Development Society would be appreciated. Arrangements have been made by McDougall & Brown, Scarborough and Angus Funeral Homes, New Glasgow.
Love you, mum.
