Obituary of Norman MacInnis
Please share a memory of Norman to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Norman Alexander MacInnis, age 72, of Westville, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital on Thursday, March 31, 2016.
Born in Guysborough he was a son of the late Alexander and Margaret (Ross) MacInnis.
Norm dedicated a large part of his life to the service of his Country and later to his community. He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Regiment for many years which included time served with the Canadian Airborne Regiment. His military career took him to many parts of the world including postings to Baden-Sollingen, Germany with his family and five overseas UN Peacekeeping tours in Cyprus. He retired at the rank of Master Warrant Officer in 1994 after 32 years of service before returning to his home Province of Nova Scotia to enjoy his retirement. This was short lived however as Norm liked to be busy and involved so he started a part-time career with Hankin Fuels delivering oil to local customers for ten years.
Norman was also a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 28 years with most of that time as a member of Branch 29, TrentonNS. During his time with RCL, Norm held positions as Padre/Service officer (10yrs), flag bearer in the colour party (20yrs), the poppy committee (8yrs) but most notable was his position as the Zone / Branch parade marshal for Remembrance Day services. Norm could be seen at the hospital on occasion as a commisionaire for a few years while also giving back to his community by volunteering as a Legion liaison to 397 Trenton Air Cadets for their survival training, and also with the Northumberland Veterans wing in Pictou.
Dad was a proud and loving husband, father, brother and papa. He will be missed for his quick wit, smile, laughter and hugs.
He is survived by his wife, Donna (Robicheau); son Trevor (Susan) MacInnis; daughter Mary (Adam) Jenkins; grandchildren Ainsleigh and Molly MacInnis; Audrey and Madison Jenkins; brothers Gary; Calvin (Christy); Darrell; Alexander "Junior"; Duane (Alison), sisters Bonnie; Peggy (Terry); Bernadine (Tom); and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved sister Mary.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 4, 2016 at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home on King St., New Glasgow, NS between 2-4pm and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will take place at the Holy Name Parish, Main St., Westville, NS on Tuesday, April 5 at 11 am. Reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 29, 94 Main St., Trenton, NS.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Palliative Care Society would be appreciated.
The Royal Canadian Legion will meet at the funeral home at 6:45pm Monday to conduct their service of remembrance.
