Allen (Long) Brenda Marie -
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Brenda Marie Allen, age 62, of MacLellan’s Brook, announces her passing, on March 11, 2016, in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in New Glasgow, she was the daughter of Charles and Mary (Burke) Long. Brenda attended St. John’sAcademy and NewGlasgowHigh School and was a proud North Ender who taught Catechism at St. John's Parish for several years. In her earlier years, Brenda worked at Sobeys and Hallidays, as well as the Bank of Montreal and the Bank of Nova Scotia. She always spoke fondly of her time working at MacMillian's Corner Grocery in the North End.
Brenda absolutely loved children. She is adored by all of her nieces, nephews, and her grandchildren who lovingly refer to her as "Ma".
Her daughter Ashley’s friends always looked forward to their visits to Bob and Brenda’s because they knew that the real fun started as soon as they were in Brenda’s company. Brenda was known for her fashion sense, no matter the occasion - whether it was gardening or hosting a party, she'd be wearing a pair of heels with the earrings to match.
Brenda loved having people around, and for her it was the more the merrier as she loved to entertain. She was the glue that bound her family together and always went out of her way to include everyone in family gatherings. Brenda was the happiest when entertaining a full house. She will always be remembered for her kindness and love of people which was particularly evident in the love and care she provided to her own mother throughout a lengthy illness.
Brenda is survived by her husband of 35 years, Robert (Bob) Allen; daughters Ashley Roberts (Vance), Sharon MacDonald (Darrell), Sharlene Tree (Tony), Sheila MacKenzie (Fraser); and son Shannon Allen (Kim); grandchildren Charley, Kendyl, Haley, Hillary, Kaitlyn, Rachel, Marley, Adam, Cory, Julie, Allen, Emma, and Matthew and 6 great-grandchildren; brothers Gary Long (Judy), Francis Long (Patti) Bill Long (Sandee); sisters: Linda Farrell (Leo), Judy Chaisson (Lauchie), Sandra Richardson (Brian), Jackie Long; as well as many nieces and nephews, loving extended family and many special friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Charles & Mary Long, sons Sheldon and Shawn and her sister Vaughn Ann.
