Obituary of Cecil John McDow

Cecil John McDow age 81 of Stellarton passed away February 18, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness with cancer. Born in New Ross, NS he was a son of the late George Edgar and Isabella "Bella" (Graves) McDow. Cecil was a kind and gentle soul happiest when spending time with his soul mate Ella. He loved feeding the birds, gardening, reading, working with wood and had the ability to make anything that was mentioned or refinish an old piece of furniture. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and take them fishing. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Cecil worked as a diamond driller with Department of Mines and was a member of the Nova Scotia Retired Employees Association. He is survived by his wife the former Ella Walker; children John (Janet) McDow, California; Mary Ella (Greg) McLean, Stellarton; Anthony (Jane) McDow, Stellarton; Angela Lantz, New Ross; grandchildren Ehren, Chris (Brenda),Alicia (Matthew), Jared (Caity), Ben, Sam, Brendan, Ashley (Brian); great-grandchildren Aulay, Claire, Alisyn, Braedyn and his faithful companion Willis. He was predeceased by sisters Dorothy, Nellie, Mildred, Annie, Audrey, Rozella, and Phyllis, brothers Ira, Clifford, Gerald and Maurice. Visitation will be from 7-9 pm Saturday Feb. 20 in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton. Funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday from the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel with Rev. Aidan Kingsbury officiating.
