Rebecca Jean Simpson
Into God’s loving arms, Rebecca “Jean” (MacLeod) Simpson age 98 years passed peacefully on Sept. 4th, 2019 at Shiretown Nursing Home. Born in Little Sands, P.E.I., to the late John and Effie Ann (MacLean) MacLeod on March 25, 1921 she was the second eldest of seven children.
As a young woman, she relocated to Pictou Landing where she was employed as a companion to a local couple and it was here that she met her future husband, Ralph. During the war years she worked in several industrial factories including an assembly line position in a munition’s factory in Lachine, Quebec. She would later return to Pictou Landing, marry her sweetheart, and together they would build a home and raise three children.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Ralph (1985), brothers Ernest, John, Alexander, and Murdock as well as her sister Isobel Dayton (Bill) and grandson Cory Ranahan.
She is survived by her children: Donna Ranahan (Bill), MacLellan’s Brook; David Simpson (Heather), Mahone Bay; and Janna Ward (Michael), Yellowknife. Also left to mourn are her sister Ann Simpson, Newtonville, Ontario; and five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the H.W. Angus Funeral Home in New Glasgow. Cremation has taken place. Her family will receive visitors at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home on Tuesday Sept 17th from 1 P.M. until 2 P.M. . A celebration of life will follow at 2 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating . A private interment will take place at a later date in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
