Please share a memory of Georgeina to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The Butterfly McCuish, Georgeina Louise (Geordie) July 1st, 1943- April 20th, 2024 Last night, Mom, Nanny, Mama Cuish, completed her metamorphosis. Not peacefully, but fighting like hell. After her life on earth as a caterpillar, she fiercely escaped her chrysalis. She was beautiful. Her heart was full of her grandchildren’s love and her colours couldn’t be contained in the rainbow. And for the very first time, she did what butterflies do. She spread her wings. And flew. Geordie was born on July 1st, 1943. Canada Day. She loved sharing her Birthday with Canada. She was born in Ontario, and had several siblings. She was a proud and loving mother to Elizabeth MacCuish, John (Lucy) MacCuish, Susan (Shane) MacNeil, and Cindy MacCuish. Nanny to Lorna, Lee Anna, Jack, Matthew, Candice, Chelsea, Megan, Amie and Nicholas. GiGi to Fourteen Great Grandchildren and Six Great Great Grandchildren. Her worst days were best when her Great Grand babies entered the room. She lit up like a firefly, with a smile from ear to ear. Fierce and loyal fan of the Boston Bruins and New England Patriots. Wore all their gear and funny little hats, slept with their little blankets and pillowcases. She loved to banter back and forth with fans of other, lesser, sports teams. In her younger years, Geordie worked in Ontario at the local hospital, helping people. For about a decade she lived in Northport, Florida, and worked at Lemon Bay Drugs and at one point managed the kitchen at a nearby golf course. She loved to golf. Geordie raised her children on a hill, in Sunnybrae. God’s Country. She opened her own small business, Hillsview Kennel, where she continued her lifelong love with animals. The kennel was very busy yet often empty. The dogs were mostly found running around in her house and often sleeping with her in her bed. She loved life on her little farm, summer trips to Newfoundland, travelling to dog shows, and harness racing in Sackville. Geordie was predeceased by her parents and beautiful daughter, Cindy. Geordie spent her last several years at Valleyview Villa, in Riverton, Pictou County. She took special pride in welcoming new residents and making them feel at home. We are so grateful for the Love and Care she received there. Thank you. As her very last gift, wanting to give, wanting to help, wanting a better future for her children and grandchildren, Geordie donated her remains to the Dalhousie University Human Body Donation Program, for research. There will be no visitation. Private family service to follow. Donations in her memory may be made to the Pictou County SPCA. It’s hard to catch a Butterfly. But if you stand still, they’ll often land on your shoulder. So slow down, breathe, and smell the flowers. She’ll be there, fluttering. And, by the way, the Bruins won.
