Obituary of Lois "Charlotte" MacDonald

Please share a memory of Lois to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lois Charlotte MacDonald Charlotte MacDonald was born May 12, 1933 at the Aberdeen Hospital, the only daughter of Dorothy and Elliott Sangster. Raised in Stellarton, Nova Scotia, Charlotte lived all her life in beautiful Pictou County. Born into the Pentecostal movement in the 1930s, she grew up serving others and involved in music at church with her parents and uncles. Their family gave of their resources, whether it was their talents, money, food or time. Her education took her on an adventure to Eastern Pentecostal Bible College in Ontario, a learning experience she shared with her best friend and ‘partner in crime’, Helen Maclean Christie. In 1984, she was a founding member of Christian Fellowship Church. Her deep faith in God guided every part of her life. Starting her career at the original Sobeys store in Stellarton as a cashier, she was further promoted to the office clerk position. Other career roles she pursued were: truck driver for MacLeod’s Bakery, Convenience store owner on Westville Road, Zellers cash office, Jeffery’s Shoe Store sales associate and bookkeeper. Although, her favorite position by far was as the Leisure Recreation Activity Worker and bus driver at Glen Haven Manor Retirement Home, where she was able to bring joy and laughter to so many with music, games, crafts and field trips! In her spare time, she had numerous hobbies and leisure activities. She loved to cook, craft, quilt, sew and jam. Her love for music was contagious! At the young age of thirteen, she became an organist and still played up until two days before her death! Throughout her life, she played for worship services and choirs at Calvary Temple, Christian Fellowship Church, and Salem Presbyterian Church. Entertaining all over Pictou County, Charlotte directed the Joyful Noise Choir, bringing together a community of music and song. In her later years, she went on numerous trips to visit family in Tobago, Barbados and Alberta. Throughout her life, she could always be found entertaining, bringing people together with a good lunch and fun, competitive games (and don’t forget the Tetley tea!). Crokinole, Phase 10, Flinch, Muggie and Rummicub were her favorite games to enjoy with friends, family and grandchildren. With a spirit of hospitality, making everyone feel loved and heard, her laughter and quick wit made each visit fun and memorable. A friend recently commented, “Charlotte was the brightest light”... a reflection of her continued ability to bring a special luminance to life. Charlotte’s greatest accomplishment and source of pride was being a mother to 5 wonderful children, 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and one grand puppy, named Mowat. She loved them dearly and invested in their lives. Her wisdom and insight, love and care, laughter and joy will be dearly missed. Survived by her four children, Joanne (Peter) Courtney, Joy (Barry) Feltmate, Heather (Joe) Sangster, Tim (Michelle) MacDonald; Grandchildren, Jordan (Sarah) and Rachel, Joshua (Leanne), Laura, and Megan (Daniel), Danica (Caleb) and Craig; Great grandchildren, Saul, Nora, Isla and Henry. Predeceased by her beloved son David and daughter in law, Carol, we know they are together eating heavenly ice cream and peanut butter balls! Charlotte peacefully passed away with family at her side in the Aberdeen Emergency Department April 18, 2024. The family would like to thank the compassionate medical team including Dr. Colin Sutton, Sia Sirramachandran RN, and Jessica Sharpe NP. Charlotte was well cared for in the previous months by Sonya Sangster, Jonathan, Beth and Teddy Knock, Carol Pettipas, and Edie Mann. We are eternally grateful for all the support provided in the last few months. Charlotte’s favorite quote and words to live by: “Kind words will cost you nothing. The efforts are but small.
