Richard Mason "Dick" Murdock Obituary
Richard Mason Murdock (Dick, Richie, Doe) son of the late George Harold (Dick) Murdock and the late Marjorie Jean (Mason) Murdock passed away peacefully Monday July 27th at 6 a.m. at the Aberdeen Hospital at the age of 89.
Richard received his early education at both one and two room classrooms in the Lower Barney’s River and Merigomish villages. He graduated from East Pictou High School. Early in his life his first job was bringing home wood for the stove at their family home which progressed to making hay, road work and helping his dad lobster fishing eventually buying his own lobster gear. Soon after he decided to sell life insurance at Manufacturers Life where he met his wife Ann Janette of 64 years. While working in Halifax he decided to sell cars at the GM dealership. From there he moved back to Pictou County where he was in the car business for many years. He was passionate about cars buying his first antique car at 20. After getting out of the car business he bought a Christmas tree farm, started a restaurant and developed some commercial properties.
Richard was a fun loving guy. He enjoyed going to his children and grandchildren’s sporting events and making many trips in his RV to Florida after retirement. He and his wife even made an RV trip to the South Shore and the Annapolis Valley two months ago . Living life to the fullest, less than a week from his passing he enjoyed a lengthy side by side adventure with his son James.
Richard is survived by his wife Ann Janette (Webber), daughter Jan James (husband John), son James Murdock (wife Tonia) four grandchildren Alisha, Eric, Emillie and Alex, brother Douglas (wife Monique) Ann Marie (niece) and Matthew (nephew). Besides his parents he was preceded by an infant brother.
A graveside service at Murray’s Point Cemetery in Lower Barney’s River will be held Saturday August 1 at 11 a.m. for family and friends followed by a Celebration of Life get together at 213 Danas Lane, Merigomish.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Presbyterian Church Stellarton or North Nova SPCA.
