It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of Roy Hughes Grant, age 86, of Truro, Nova Scotia. He passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026 surrounded by family who loved him deeply.

Born on September 15, 1939 in New Glasgow, NS,  Roy was the middle child of Harold & Estella Grant. In his younger years, he moved to Hamilton, Ontario, to find work at the steel mills there. He soon met his wife, Earline and eventually built a home in Oro-Medonte Township, ON. They had two children, Tammy and Kevin, and he built a successful career as a Production Supervisor at Molsons Brewery in Barrie, Ontario, which he ended up retiring from.

Outside of work, Roy had a deep passion for hunting, fishing, and watching his son play hockey. He was best known for his work ethic, sense of humour and that twinkle in his eye when he was teasing you or being mischievous. He loved sports and was always watching baseball, cheering on the Jays.

A cherished father to Tammy Smith (Stephen Smith), and his son Kevin Grant; Proud Grandfather to Elisa Smith and Kaitlyn Smith; Beloved brother to Marie (Bill) Fraser and Shirley Tomlinson; Dear Uncle to his nieces and nephews: Tracey Fraser (Yuri Power), Lynn (Glenn) Fraser, Susan (Matt) Rodgers, Pam (Robbie) Francis, Harold Tomlinson, Karen (Wayne) Nuttal, Philip Tomlinson, and Heather (John) Guitard, Kim Hallmark, Tracy Perry, Steve Miller and Michael Symington. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Earline Grant; his parents Harold Grant & Estella Grant; his friend/partner in later years, Juanita Johnson; sister-in-laws Carole Symington and Adele Perry; and brothers-in-law Cecil Tomlinson, Blair Symington and Jerry Symington.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 26, at 2:00pm at H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel (256 King Street, New Glasgow, NS) with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. A reception will follow. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Colchester East Hants Health Centre in Truro, NS, where Roy received such good care in his final days.
