It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Wayne “Tate” Withers. Wayne passed away peacefully at home on May 20th, 2026. Wayne was born on August 9th, 1941 to the late Walter and Charlotte Withers.

Wayne was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow. In his youth Wayne was an avid hockey player but his ability to play hockey was taken away as a result of a car accident at the age of 16. His love for hockey continued as a dedicated fan attending hockey games with his brother Allan.

Wayne spent many happy years as a crossing guard at A.G. Bailey School. He spent many years playing golf at Abercrombie Golf and Country Club and also was their Course Marshall.

His proudest achievement was his induction into the Pictou County Sports Heritage Hall of Fame in 1955.

wayne was predeceased by his sister Norma Simpson.

He is survived by his loving wife Marie who was a very loving and caring wife to Wayne and provided excellent care to Wayne over the years. Wayne is also survived by his only daughter Susan Lynn (John ) Hughes and cherished grandchildren Jonathan (Emily) and Brianna (Justin) as well as his great grandchild Jackson Hughes; sister Sharon Couse (Dean deceased), Susan Richard (Glen Sponagle); brothers Gary Withers (Shirley deceased), Allan Withers (Bernadette), sister in -law Marion Hayden (Jack deceased).

Cremation has taken place, there will be a memorial service held in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow on Monday, May 25 at 2 pm. A reception will follow in the funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Thorburn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, the VON Home Support or a charity of your choice.
