Olive Mary (Kuhn) Cavanagh

Age 72, passed away on May 8, 2026 at the Aberdeen Hospital in Palliative Care.

Born in Halifax Olive’s early days were in Port Wallace, Nova Scotia. Olive was the daughter of the late Bernard and Barbara (Boutilier) Kuhn and one of nine children.

Olive married David Cavanagh in 1975 and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2025. Olive and Dave had two children, Dave and Brad, and they were her greatest accomplishment. Dave and daughter-in-law Pina, have two children, Chase and Brooke, her beautiful grandchildren. They fondly referred to her as Bananna. She would smile every time they called her that. She loved them all beyond words.

Olive and Dave moved to New Glasgow in the late 70’s. She loved New Glasgow and looked at a lot of her neighbors as family. She prepped meals, shared newspapers, fed their pets. She was always worried people were not eating enough.

Olive was an avid animal lover. Her cats Harley, Gabe and Abby were her fur babies and she loved them dearly. Olive loved the water and enjoyed adventures boating in Halifax Harbour and swimming in Lake Echo at Vicki and Paul Palmeter’s.

Olive is survived by husband, David Cavanagh (New Glasgow), sons David (Pina), Toronto and Brad, New Glasgow. Two grandchildren, Chase and Brooke, Toronto. Her Sister Agnes (Keith) Rendell (Eastern Passage), Brother, Harry Kuhn of Ontario, Mother-in-Law Josephine Cavanagh, New Glasgow, Sister-in-Laws Judy Gordon and Cathy (Herbie) Henderson of New Glasgow and Jean Kuhn PEI. 

Special people in Olive’s life were Terry Gordon of British Columbia, Samantha Gill, Toronto, Kaye Boyd, Cape Breton, Jesse (Laura) Rendell, Eastern Passage and Vicki (Paul) Palmeter, Lake Echo. Olive leaves behind too many cousins, nieces, nephews and good friends to name, but she loved you all.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Palliative Care unit at the Aberdeen Hospital.

No visitation, cremation has taken place. Donations can be made to the SPCA or any animal shelter of your choice.
