Lawrence Cluney Obituary

Lawrence Arthur Cluney, of Linacy, passed away peacefully in the Glen Haven Manor on May 8, 2026, with family by his side.

Lawrence was born in Pictou County on May 24, 1933.  He was the youngest son of Arthur and Florence (Cameron) Cluney. As a young man he worked on the railroad locally and later for a mechanical business.

He was a quiet and gentle man who enjoyed quiet activities. He loved to fish and he had many favorite fishing spots in the county.  He also loved to take drives on old country roads.

Lawrence enjoyed many evenings visiting with his sister, Rosalind, at her home in Stellarton. He enjoyed family gatherings where he would reconnect with his nieces and nephews.

Lawrence loved to get a good deal and he looked forward to receiving the weekly flyers. He enjoyed taking a late evening walk on the Samson Trail and this was usually followed up by a hot cup of “seniors” tea from McDonalds.

Lawrence went to live at the Glen Haven Manor in October 2022. There he enjoyed the daily hot meals, especially the hot mashed potatoes with butter. Lawrence looked forward to freshly baked biscuits and a hot cup of coffee each time his nephew came to visit.

He was a faithful caregiver to his father for many years.

Along with his parents, Lawrence is predeceased by his brother, John, his sisters, Margaret and Mabel, and his sister and brother-in-law, Rosalind and Leonard Wilson.

He is survived by his sister, Catherine Prichard, of Fredericton and locally by his nephew, Stanley Wilson (Christie) of Sunny Brae and several grand nieces and nephews.

Lawrence’s family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Glen Haven Manor for the kindness and care he received, especially Theresa Dewar and Matthew Gerrior, who cared for him from the very beginning.

Cremation has taken place. In honour of Lawrence’s wishes, a private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
