James Richard "Jim" Ellsworth Obituary
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of James Richard "Jim" Ellsworth.
A defining part of Jim’s purpose in life was bringing joy to everyone he met—not just those closest to him, but to anyone fortunate enough to cross his path. He was truly one of a kind, simply unforgettable. Kindness radiated from him in abundance, and when someone thanked him, he’d grin, extend his hand, and say with a playful giggle, “That’ll be 10 cents.”
Always an outdoorsman at heart, Jim found his greatest joy in life’s simplest pleasures. Whether fishing, tending the grill, or puttering in the yard, he was happiest when those moments were shared with the people he loved. He was a devoted family man, a loyal friend, and carried a quiet warrior’s spirit when it came to protecting and caring for those closest to him.
Jim was a tremendous worker whose dedication and strong work ethic were evident throughout his life. He took pride in every role he held, contributing his skills and reliability to Clairtone, Tibbits Paint, Grant’s Glass and Maritime Steel, from which he retired. No matter the job, Jim approached his work with quiet determination and a sense of responsibility that earned the respect of those around him.
Many residents of Stellarton will fondly remember Jim as he walked his beloved dog, Zoe, through town, always taking the time to stop, chat, and connect with those he met along the way. Many cherished summers were spent along the Northumberland Shore at Seafoam Campground and Old Orchard Campground. Days were filled with swimming, kayaking, walks along the beach, and the kind of laughter that turns into lifelong friendships.
Jim had an enormous heart, especially for animals and children. He welcomed everyone into his home with open arms and would give of himself freely to ensure their comfort and happiness. He lived his faith with quiet conviction and carried a deep, genuine compassion for those less fortunate.
A truly remarkable mind, Jim had a natural talent for many things, from art to carpentry. He possessed an incredible memory and took great joy in sharing stories drawn from a life rich with experience. With his adventurous spirit and playful nature, time spent in his company was always a delight.
Jim passed peacefully and unexpectedly on April 19, 2026, just weeks after celebrating his 83rd birthday on April 2. He often told family and friends that, when he was gone, he hoped to be remembered by a yellow flower—something simple, bright, and full of joy, much like him. There could be no more fitting tribute to his unique spirit. His presence will be deeply missed, and his memory forever cherished.
Jim leaves behind his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Janet Rhoda Ellsworth, his adored “number one son,” Kevin Richard Ellsworth, and his faithful companion, Winky—the six-toed cat who was always by his side.
A celebration of life will be held at H.W. Angus Funeral Home at 256 King Street in New Glasgow on April 30th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. An internment service will follow at MacLellan's Mountain Cemetary in Kirkmount
Donations in Jim's memory can be made to the North Nova SPCA, the Nova Scotia Food Bank, Diabetes Canada and/or the Ronald MacDonald House.
