It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father, Lester George O’Hara, age 97 at Oceanview Manor, Eastern Passage, NS, on April 17th, 2026. Before becoming a resident at Oceanview Manor he lived in his home in New Glasgow.

He was the son of the late Regionald O’Hara and Anna Mae O’Hara.  He was born on October 2, 1928 in Lochaber, NS.

In his younger years he worked for Canadian National Railroads in Toronto, and then returned to Aspen, Nova Scotia with his late wife, Theresa (Cameron) O’Hara where they raised their young family. He worked in Highway construction until the early 70’s when he began a career in the lab at Michelin Tire, Granton, NS.  Upon retiring from Michelin he spent his winters in Florida and summers in New Glasgow. 

Dad was a hardworking, honest man. He had a quiet strength and a beautiful sincere smile. He was a friend to many. He enjoyed his retirement years in Florida and made many wonderful friends there, he told wonderful stories of his time there which always brought a smile to his face and a twinkle to his eyes. Dad loved going to dances and continued doing so until he was 94. He was a member of the Michelin Social Club, an avid crib player and enjoyed his weekly card games.

He is survived by his two daughters, Edna & Sheila (Dartmouth) and two sons, Sonny (New Glasgow), Nelson (Oshawa); his grandchildren, Tonya, Shawn, Danielle, Michelle, Melissa, Jennifer, Crystal and Katie; 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and his wife Theresa, he was predeceased by his daughter Patricia, son Bill, son Glen, and one son in infancy. He was the last remaining member of his family and was predeceased by his brothers, Doug, Raymond, Elwin and sisters, Mae & Helen.

We wish to thank the staff at Oceanview Manor for their kindness, care and compassion given to Dad during his time there.

Cremation has taken place. A service will be held at H. W. Angus Funeral Home, 256 King St. New Glasgow, NS on May 30th, 2pm. Burial to follow at Brookside Cemetery, New Glasgow.
