Dave Robertson Obituary
Dave Robertson, 65, of Thorburn, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026.
Born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, on August 9, 1960, Dave was the eldest of four siblings, born to Donald and Marjorie Robertson.
Dave was a dedicated refrigeration technician who owned and operated his own successful appliance repair business for over 40 years. His hard work and commitment to his community were recently recognized when he received the Unsung Hero Award from the Chamber of Commerce.
Dave was happily married to his high school sweetheart, Donna, for 43 years. Together, they built a loving home and raised four sons: Nick, Brandon, Tim, and Sean. Sundays were especially meaningful, as the entire family could be found gathered around the table at Dave and Donna’s home for supper.
Dave had a deep love for his family, as well as for hockey, fishing, his Jeep, his bus, and traveling. He coached hockey for many years and took great pride in watching his sons—and more recently, his grandchildren—play the game he loved.
Known for always keeping busy, Dave was rarely still. He loved working with his hands, constantly tinkering with projects or helping others in any way he could. Whether through his work or his years of coaching, Dave touched the lives of countless people in his community.
Holidays and vacations were especially dear to Dave. As soon as one trip ended, he could be found the next morning at the computer, already planning the next adventure.
Anyone who knew Dave knew he had a remarkable gift for storytelling. Though long-winded at times, his stories will never be forgotten.
Dave’s love for his grandchildren was unmatched. He never missed an opportunity to attend their sporting events, Christmas concerts, or to take them out for ice cream in his prized Jeep. “Grampie” leaves behind a space that can never be filled, but the memories he created with his grandchildren will be cherished forever.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Donna (Darroch) Robertson; his children, Nick (Chelsea) of Merigomish, Brandon (Ashley) Thorburn, Tim (Danielle) Abercrombie, and Sean (Alisha) of New Glasgow. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Locklyn, Sawyer, Rhys, Easton, Aspen, Colton, and Caleb.
He is also survived by his aunt, Eleanor Betts; his siblings, Marla Cameron (Jason), Dean (Jennifer) Robertson, and Doug (Liya) Robertson; as well as his in-laws, Scott (Janifer) Darroch and Karen (Ernie) MacMillan. Dave will also be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.
Dave was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Marjorie Robertson; his in-laws, Angus and Willena Darroch; his brother-in-law, Shane Cameron; and his sister-in-law, Nancy Darroch.
Words cannot express how much Dave will be missed. He will forever remain in our hearts and memories.
Dave will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 8 in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, 256 King St., New Glasgow from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 9 at 11 am in Union Presbyterian Church Thorburn with John Reeves officiating. Burial will be in the Thorburn Cemetery.
