Muriel Lawson Obituary

Lawson, Muriel Constance (or "Wa" as she was affectionately known by her family and community) 72, of High-Crest Sherbrooke passed away early Friday April 3, 2026 surrounded by her family. Born May 7, 1953 at St. Mary's Hospital, Sherbrooke, she was the daughter of Bob and Jessie Lawson and grew up in Melrose, Nova Scotia.

Muriel is survived by her siblings Ann, East River St. Mary's, Archie (Judy), MacLellan's Brook, Sally (Jamie), East River St. Mary's, Robert (Esther), Lower Sackville, Bill (Erika), Antigonish. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert William ("Bob") Lawson and Jessie Cecilia (McKeen) Lawson of Melrose, sister, Myrtle Elizabeth ('Lee") Rooney of Sherbrooke and grand-niece MacKenzie Skye Rooney of Sudbury, Ontario. Muriel was adored by several nieces and nephews and even more adored by her many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.

Even though Wa was what you might call the "strong silent type" she had a significant impact on her family and her community. Ever the keen observer, she was content to sit and take everything in around her. She had a smile for everyone she met and was well-loved by all who knew her. She was the "connector" of her family, and a consistent source of comfort and positivity. She was a teacher, even if she did not know it, as she taught by example to have patience, enjoy the simple things life had to offer and to love and accept everyone without limits.

Wa enjoyed being with her family, especially taking car trips to town and around the province with her parents and her siblings. The highlight of these trips, no doubt, was stopping for an ice cream or a hamburger and french fries. She loved to wear her sparkly, colorful jewelry, clothing and hair accessories which perfectly reflected her bright, beautiful and charming personality. She was a treasured aunt to her nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great-grand nephews who were drawn to her kind and gentle nature.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to the wonderful staff of the High Crest Nursing Home, Sherbrooke, and all the friends she made there.
