It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Edmund Richard, of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, who died peacefully at the Aberdeen Hospital. Born and raised in New Glasgow, Edmund was the beloved son of the late John Richard and Helen (Pelerine) Richard.
Edmund was loved, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Surviving Edmund are his son John, and his daughter, Rachel. He is also survived by his brothers Brent, Mike (Marilyn), Raymond, and Adam (Emily), and his sisters Marilyn, Susan (Kevin), and Joyce (Eric). Nieces Amber, Holly, Kim, Jenn, Amy, Jaime, Christa, and Chelsea, and nephews Stephen, Brian, John, Tim, Ryan, and Nathan.
He will also be remembered with deep respect for achieving and maintaining 12 years of sobriety, a remarkable testament to his strength, and perseverance. During those years, Edmund became a steady source of encouragement to others, helping many people through their own struggles with addiction. He was a dedicated and valued member of the AA community in New Glasgow, where he offered support, understanding, and hope to countless individuals.
In addition to his parents, Edmund was predeceased by his sister Paulette; his brothers Leslie and David; his niece April; and his nephews Paul and Wayne.
Cremation has taken place at H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. In keeping with Edmund’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. A private burial will take place at a later date.
Edmund’s memory will live on through all who knew and loved him. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, and the meaningful impact he had on those around him.
