Edward Joseph Hudry Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward Joseph Hudry of Stellarton, Nova Scotia. Surrounded by his loving family, Ed passed away peacefully at home on March 22, 2026, at the age of 75.

Born on December 24th,1950, he was the son of the late Joseph Hudry and Gertrude (Avery) Hudry. Eddie was born and raised in Stellarton, a town he was always proud to call home. It was there that he met his wife of 52 years- Joan (Buckles) and they raised their three daughters- Jennifer, Karen and Amy.

Eddie was a long-time employee of Michelin Tire. After his 30-year career, he enjoyed a wonderful retirement of relaxation, time with family and many rounds on the golf course. Being “Papa” to his nine grandchildren was the role he cherished most. He made each of his grandchildren feel deeply loved, and no matter the moment he always had a joke ready to bring a smile to their faces. Ed was a member of the R.C.A.F. Association in Stellarton, where he developed many lasting connections over the years.

Eddie was an all-around athlete and sports enthusiast. Hockey was a big part of his youth, playing with both Stellarton High School and the New Glasgow Bombers.  His time being coached by Fraser MacLean and Johnny Young created some of his best hockey memories. Ed also played rugby, baseball, and curled, but it was the sport of golf that filled his time in his later years. He played countless rounds at Abercrombie, managed to win a tournament or two, including his most recent Super Senior Championship, and won countless bets with his friends along the way.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Joan Hudry; his daughters, Jennifer (Tom Goddard) of Ottawa, ON, Karen (Travis MacQuarrie) of Antigonish, Amy (Brian Jones) of Antigonish; and his beloved grandchildren, Ava, Jack, Zach, Hailey, James, Matthew, Andrew, Jenna, and Adam. He will also be greatly missed by Ava and Jack’s father, Dave Lariviere of Ottawa, ON.

Eddie is also survived by his sisters, Bonnie (Victor) Stewart of Ottawa, ON, Mary (Harry) Howard of Grimsby, ON, Geraldine (late Keith) Berry of Milford, Donna (late William) Gennoe of Stellarton, and Bernadette (Terry) of Beaver Bank, as well as his brothers-in-law, Brian (Glenda) Buckles of Stellarton, and Frank (Laure) Buckles of Dartmouth.

Ed will always be remembered for his patience, competitive spirit, quick wit, and his ability to bring laughter into any room.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Surujballi, Nurse Rachael MacDonald and the VON nurses for their care and support during this time.

The family will welcome people to gather and pay their respects from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Abercrombie Country Club on April 18th. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life for family and close friends to begin at 3:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome in Ed’s memory to the Pictou County Palliative Care Society or the Canadian Red Cross.
