James O. "Sonny" Ross Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James "Sonny" Osborne Ross of Iron Rock, NS, February 15, 1941- March 8, 2026. He was the only son of Osborne Ross and Maisie Ross-Macdonald.

Sonny loved the simple things in life. He loved being outside and watching the birds and squirrels, reminiscing of his old trucking days, bluegrass music, playing guitar, teasing his wife and grandkids (such as burying fool's gold for treasure hunts and making mouse poop out of Playdoh), but most of all spending time with his family. He would always answer the call from his kids or grandkids and be there is a flash (no matter what time it was) ready to take them anywhere they needed to go. Being a father and grandfather was the true joy of his life.

Loving husband of Dianne Ross, married for 63 years this month. Devoted father of Carol Anne, Wendy (Irving) Sharpe, Kevin (Annabel), Corrine (Ben) Stevens. Proud Grampie of Christopher Sharpe, Zachery Sharpe, Kelsey (Steven) Marenick,  Jenna (Jon) Maclaughlin, Olivia Stevens, Dave (Glori) Green, and Jeff (Katie) Green, many nieces, nephews, and brothers/sisters in law.

Sonny started working at an early age in the lumber camps of Pictou County. Over the years he held several positions including a welder at Trenton Car Works, operating his own vehicle escort service (VESCO), but his real love was being behind the wheel of a transport truck (MACK was king!). He drove for various companies including DOT, J.W. MacDonald, CN, Monts Transfer. He retired from S.W. Weeks Construction where he thrived, and worked part-time with Balodis Trucking in his retirement.

Predeceased by his parents Osborne and Maisie, and step-father Alan Macdonald. Sisters Carolyn Sharpe and Betty Ann Stewart.

Special thanks to: nephew Ron Sharpe whose weekly visits were so cherished. Barb, Lauren, Eileen who helped us fulfill Dad's wish to remain at home, the many VON nurses and the Palliative Care team at the Aberdeen who kept him comfortable, and Chester Dewar.

Cremation will take place with interment at a later date. Donations can be made to the Bridgeville Cemetery, Palliative Care Society, or the charity of ones choice.
