Janet “Norberta” Langille
Norberta Langille, affectionately known as “Beep,” was born on March 5, 1936, to John “Brick” and Jenny Campbell. Norberta was a lifelong resident of Stellarton, most notably of River Street, where her childhood home became the center of family life for generations.
Following the tragic loss of their mother, Norberta, at just 13 years old, assumed the role and raised her five younger siblings: John “Sonny/Soup” Campbell, Margaret-Anne (Bill) Henderson, Elaine (Daryl) Garland, Jean Rogers, and Joe (Mary) Campbell. She was predeceased by her parents and by her siblings Sunny, Jean, and Elaine.
In addition to her dedication to family, Norberta worked various jobs throughout her life to support those she loved. It was while working as a “ticket girl” at the Jubilee Theatre in Stellarton that she met Malcolm Harvey Langille, who offered to walk her home one evening. That simple gesture marked the beginning of a lifelong partnership, and together they shared 66 years of marriage. Her devoted husband, Malcolm, will miss her deeply.
Norberta and Malcolm raised three daughters: Debbie (John) Oliver, and twins Jennifer (Jed) MacKean and Jeanette (Joey) Mombourquette. She took great pride in her daughters and remained a constant source of guidance, support, and love throughout their lives.
She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her grandchildren: Clarie Oliver, Steven (Erica) Oliver, Jackie (Jason) Pratt, Warren (Jade) Campbell, Devin (Melissa) Campbell, and Amanda and Jennifer Mombourquette. She also leaves behind her cherished great-grandchildren: Braeden, Sara, and Johnny Oliver, Hunter Campbell, Carter and Thomas Campbell, and JT and Emma Cameron.
Beyond her devotion to family, Norberta enjoyed a variety of interests, including belly dancing, and was widely known for her remarkable luck at Bingo. An enthusiastic Bingo traveller, she journeyed throughout the province to play. On one memorable occasion in Cape Breton, she won a new 1993 Ford truck, which remains in the family to this day.
Norberta will be especially remembered for her baking and the family traditions she lovingly maintained. Her Halloween gingerbread cookies, fresh bran muffins, cinnamon toast, and mushroom soup on toast were staples and remain lasting fond memories.
Norberta found deep joy in the quiet, simple routines of daily life. She loved watching the birds from her windows and at her bird feeders, taking great pleasure in caring for them. Her true passion, however, were her gardens. She poured her heart into them, and it showed. Neighbours could almost always find her outside tending to her flowers and gardens, and her home became known for its breathtaking, meticulously maintained gardens. Her green thumb was legendary and the beauty she created around her home reflected the patience and pride she put into everything she did.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the neighbours of River Street, who over the years became far more than neighbours and truly became family. Their kindness, friendship, and unwavering support meant more than words can express.
Norberta passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, in the Palliative Care Unit at Aberdeen Hospital, surrounded by those who loved her.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Unit. The family wishes to express their deepest and most heartfelt thanks to all of the wonderful staff, with special thanks to Ardis, Kim, Sonia, and Jackie, whose compassion, kindness, and exceptional care will always be remembered.
