Jane Louise Day Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jane Louise (Burns) Day on December 21, 2025, following a sudden and courageous battle with cancer. She passed peacefully, with her devoted husband, Jim, and their three children by her side.

Jane was born on June 6, 1959, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to the late Edward Burns and Betty Burns. She was raised in Port Hawkesbury alongside her siblings, Danny, David, and Janet, where strong family bonds were formed that remained a constant source of comfort and joy throughout her life.

It was also in Port Hawkesbury that Jane met the love of her life, Jim Day. What began as young love grew into a partnership that spanned 49 years. Married on July 12, 1980, they shared 45 years of marriage rooted in deep affection, loyalty, and an unwavering devotion to one another and to their family.

Jane and Jim made their home in Stellarton, where Jane dedicated 40 years of service to Sobeys. She was known for her strong work ethic, kindness, and genuine care for others, leaving a lasting impression on coworkers and customers alike.

Above all else, Jane’s greatest and proudest joy was being a mother and nanny. She was a devoted mother to Tyler (Rebecca, Stellarton)Kalem (New Glasgow), and McKayla (Tommy, Australia), who were her entire world. She was a loving grandmother to Lucas and Isabel, who were the light of her life and filled her heart each day. She also eagerly awaited the arrival of her grandson due in May 2026 — a joy she spoke of often and held close to her heart.

Jane was known for her warmth, strength, and boundless capability. She found happiness in baking, gardening, scrapbooking, and creating a welcoming home filled with laughter, food and love. Affectionately known as the “neighbourhood nanny,” Jane extended her care well beyond her own family, offering her love and guidance freely to all. Everything had its place, and everything she did was done with care and intention.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses whose compassion and dedication meant so much during Jane’s illness. Special thanks are extended to her brother-in-law, Wendell, and his wife, Jean, for their unwavering support, as well as to Cheryl Mackay-Langille (Frankie) and Mary Sheppard, dear friends Jane held close to her heart. We are also sincerely grateful to the many friends, family members, and neighbours whose kindness, support, and presence helped carry us through this difficult time.

Jane leaves behind a family shaped by her love, who will carry it forward now and forever.

She will always be with us, in love and in memory.

A Celebration of Life will be held on December 30, 2025, from 1:00–4:00 p.m. at the Wellness Center. All who knew and loved Jane are warmly invited to attend.
