With great sadness, we announce the passing of Joe, age 63, of Greenwood, Pictou County, formerly of Piedmont Valley Road. He passed away on November 27, 2025 in the Aberdeen Hospital after a long battle with cancer. Joe was the son of Lee Simpson Sr. and Dorothy (O’Brien) Simpson.
He was a devoted member of the former French River Presbyterian Church, where he served on the Board of Managers, the Building Fund and the Cemetery Committee. He later became an adherent of Union Presbyterian Church in Thorburn.
A true outdoorsman, Joe spent his career working in for forestry alongside his father, as well as Scott Paper and Dry brook Forestry Products. He took immense pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic, attention to detail and the care he showed to everyone around him. He had a wonderful sense of humour and generous spirit. Joe loved to write and shared his writings with those close to him. When Joe wasn’t hard at work, he was out walking his fur babies Gemma and Harley whom he doted on. He was a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was extremely close to the Williams family, Nick and Linda, whom he treasured. Joe married the love of his life, Susan and their time together as husband and wife was a source of immense joy.
Joe is survived by his wife, Susan Henderson, mother Dorothy, brother Lee Jr. (Jeannie), sisters Jean Gates, Lynn Boone (Frank) and Sherry Syed. Also several nieces and nephews special cousin Doug Simpson, brother in-law Kenneth Henderson (Virginia Morgan).
He was predeceased by his father B. Lee Simpson, sister-in-law Elizabeth Hendersonmother-in-law and father-in-law Anne and Laurence Henderson, brother-in-law Kenneth Gates.
As per Joe’s wishes, there will be a private family committal in the Thorburn Cemetery, followed by a reception for friends and family at the Union Presbyterian Church Hall Friday December 5 ,2025 at 2 P.M. Family flowers only please.
