We are heart broken to announce the passing of Betty (Minnie Elizabeth) MacLean who passed away on Nov 18, 2025. Betty was the daughter of the late Burt and Annie MacDonald (Moser). She passed in a warm embrace with her family by her side.
Mom was born and raised in Caledonia. At a young age, Mom worked at the Coffee Pot along-side her lifelong best friend Joyce. She loved her job and it was here that she met the “hand-some” love of her life, DJ, whom she later married. Mom and Dad were loyal Caledonia resi-dents spending most of their 60 plus years there, only moving to New Glasgow in later years.
Mom cherished the fact that she was a deeply devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, always longing for the next family visit. She cherished her family above all. When it came to having a great mom we hit the jackpot!!! The word “Lady” describes mom to a tee, she was gentle, polite, respectful and kind.
It was always important for mom to look well “put together”; not a hair out of place, clothing al-ways the latest style, earrings were a must and if she did not have a purse in hand, a lipstick was in her pocket, and in later years, under her pillow.
We had lots of love throughout our home but the true heart was the kitchen, and mom was the captain of that ship. She was an incredible cook and baker. It was a normal occurrence to find our kitchen counter filled with goodies, some of which would be shared with anyone who might drop in. Mom’s kitchen was always open.
Baking was not the only thing that happened in the kitchen, Mom and Dad could often be found dancing their way from the kitchen into the living room. They also regularly donned their dancing shoes to join friends and family, hitting the dance floor on Saturday nights. Mom loved country music both new and old, she also had an eclectic taste, according to the ages of her children.
She is survived by her son Philip (Sherry), Sunny Brae; daughter Mary MacLean (Doug Lees), New Glasgow; daughter-in-law Clare MacLean, Inverness; 6 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; sisters Teddy (Ed) Fairhurst, New Glasgow; Frances Zentner, Westville; brothers George (Lillian) Moser, Plymouth; Lewis Moser; Westville and sister in-laws Ruby Moser and Diane Moser.
She was predeceased by her husband Donald John MacLean “D.J”, son Leon, daughter Char-lene, brothers Alec (Beulah), Albro, Lorne, Ernest, brother-in-laws Grant Cruickshank and Ken Zentner and sister-in-law Betty “Lewis” Moser.
Our thanks to Mom’s special “care squad”… those of you who curled her hair, painted her nails, gave her hugs and told her jokes to bring her a chuckle. We will always remember and appreci-ate the respect and love you showed our mother.
Visitation will be from 11am-12:45 pm on Saturday, 22 November 2025 in the H.W. Angus fu-neral home, where the service will be held at 1 pm with Rev.Charles MacPherson officiating. Burial to follow in the Hattie Cemetery, Caledonia.
Donations in memory of Betty may be made to Hattie cemetery fund.
