Gary Joseph MacKeen Obituary

Gary Joseph MacKeen, 78 of Antigonish formerly of Aspen, NS passed away on November 6, 2025 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Antigonish. Born in Antigonish he was a son of the late Bruce and Muriel (Smith) MacKeen.


Gary lived most of his life in Aspen, he left school at an early age and bought his first truck and worked as a self-employed truck driver for many years. He later went to work for the Department of Transportation and when he retired from there worked at Archbald’s Dairy Farm for several years. Gary was a member of the Kirk Memorial United Church in Aspen, a member of the Aspen Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the St. Mary’s Shooters Association.


Gary would help anyone in need and had a special place in his heart for animals, especially his cats, who he loved to feed.


He is survived by his siblings Donald (Penny) McKeen, Joan (Bill) Wright, Betty (Robert) Walker, Allan (Gloria) MacKeen; his special niece Krissy Giles, nephew Cameron Wright, niece Melanie O'Dell, nephews Michael and Timothy Walker and niece Jillean Carter who thought the world of their uncle Gary. He is also survived by many great great nieces and a great great nephew.


Besides his parents he was predeceased by nieces Holly, Tara  and  nephew William MacKeen.


The family will receive friends in Kirk Memorial United Church, Aspen on Saturday, November 29 from 12 pm – 2 pm with a memorial service beginning at 2 pm, Rev Derek Elsworth officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Aspen.


A reception will follow the burial in the church.


Donations in memory of Gary may be made to Evergreen Cemetery Fund, Aspen.
