Joy Marie MacKenzie Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom, Joy Marie MacKenzie, 85. She was born on December 12th, 1939 to William & Annie MacKay. She grew up in the Red Row in Stellarton and was the eldest of three children. She married the love of her life, John, in 1958 and they spent 52 loving years together. She was a stay at home Mom for many years and raised 5 daughters. Coming home after school to homemade bread, cookies or doughnuts was the norm. The house smelled amazing! If life wasn’t hectic enough, they also had numerous foster kids over the years, with the most memorable being Nancy. Both our parents had an abundance of love to give, and it surrounded us our entire life. Couples today talk about date night, our parents always had date night. Dad never left the house without giving Mom a kiss. We are a “hugging family”. Mom was known for being “MacGyver”. If something was broken, she’d find away to fix it. If something was hard, she found away to make it easier. She always had a little tool box and a ball of string or yarn handy. Mom could crochet or knit just about anything. From sock and mitts, to ninja turtle sweaters. She made lace table clothes and slipper socks. She made baby set, dresses and blankets for every one of her grandkids and great grandkids. As much as we felt her love, she cherished everyone of them. Mom used to work occasionally at the Abercrombie Golf and County Club when they were having a big party helping out in the kitchen. She went to work at the Valley View Villa to help out for two weeks, and worked for 25-ish years until her retirement. Our happy place was and will always be our cottage in Lochaber. Mom has been sick for a while, but still was able to get to the cottage this past summer which she thoroughly enjoyed. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and the CWL. She will be dearly missed.

> Surviving are her daughters: Jacqueline Spears (Bruce), Janice Ross (Donnie), Jocelyn Diamond-Wentzell (Brian), Son-in-law Jim Bell (Susan). Grand children John (Christine), Shyla and Meghan Bell; Tammy Spears and Carla Quigley (Kyle); Chris (Melissa) and Brad (Lisa) Smith; Coby (Kirsten) and Janessa Diamond and George Welsh. Great grandkids: Morgan (Kennedy), Silvi, Jacob, Clayton, Jace, Ryan, Johanna, Emerson, Easton, Amelia, Max and MacKenzie. Brother Billie (Anne) and Sister Judy (Ken). Nieces and nephew. She was predeceased by her husband John, both her parents Bill and Annie, daughters Judith, Josephine, Nancy and her grandson Jeremy.
