Jean MacKenzie Obituary

Margaret “Jean” MacKenzie of Glengarry, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow.

Born on May 8th, 1936, in New Glasgow, she was the beloved daughter of the late Robert and Eunice (Mason) MacWilliam.

Jean spent her younger years helping her father on their family dairy farm in Plymouth and was a proud graduate of Stellarton High School. Her love of mathematics resulted in her becoming a bookkeeper. Throughout her life, Jean had many roles and careers, finally retiring from G. A. Shaw Fuels Ltd.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Jean dedicated her life to her family. Jean had a great sense of humour and was always up for a laugh that highlighted her deep dimples. She found joy in baking; especially her blueberry and apple pies; reading, sharing a hot cup of tea and visiting with her family. Her warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit will forever be in our hearts.

Jean is survived by her husband, Ronald A. MacKenzie, Glengarry, of 68 years and her 10 children: Diane (Bob) Veitch, Bracebridge, ON; Roberta (Mike) Ridout, Oriental, NC; Marion Gillis, Ouje-Bougamau, QC; Darrell (Jane) MacKenzie, Oshawa, ON; Maureen MacKenzie, Stellarton; Cheryllynn MacKenzie, Stellarton; Bill (Beth) MacKenzie, Stellarton; Gerald (Jennifer) MacKenzie, Valley; George MacKenzie, Eastern Passage; as well as 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Hugh (Phyllis) MacWilliam and a sister-in-law Jessie MacWilliam, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son Ronnie MacKenzie; brother Bill MacWilliam; sisters Mary Riley; Jeanette (Bernie) Bezanson and Betty (Richard) Parker.

A celebration of life to honor Jean will be held at a later date.

In accordance with mom’s wishes cremation has taken place.
