Olive "Karen" (Hubley) Smith, 79, of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully at the Aberdeen Hospital on June 23, 2025. Karen was a loving mother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and great-auntie.
Karen was the daughter of the late Roy and Mary (Daken) Hubley of Westville.
To know Karen was to love her. She was kind, loving and caring to everyone, and also took great care of her many nieces and nephews through the years. Karen loved a good card game, Bingo, Yahtzee, shopping and her favorite shows "The Waltons" and "Coronation Street".
Karen is survived by her son Kevin (Sheila), and daughter Kenda (David); sisters Florence Haggerty, Laura Jean, Carol Ann, Nancy (Gordon) MacKenzie, Debbie (Arnie) Cameron and Dagmar Hubley (late Doug Mason); brothers Cecil (Sandra), Geroge, Scott, Ken (Rhona) and Earl (Aya); and many nieces and nephews.
Karen was predeceased by son Kelly Andrew Smith; sisters Ellen Marie (Eric) and her first husband John Collins, Mary Catherine "Kay" (John Matheson) and her first husband Herbie Skidmore, Linda Hubley; brothers Gordon (infancy), Robert "Bob"(Dagmar), and Harold (Sharon); sister-in-law Anna Jean Hubley. Also Kevin and Kenda's father, Francis Smith.
The family would like to extend much gratitude to the nurses on the Pallative Care Unit for their exceptional care and compassion.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Eagles Funeral Home in Westville, Nova Scotia.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Karen on Sunday, October 19th at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 34 (Upstairs), 39 North Provost St., New Glasgow from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. Please come and share your memories, celebrate her spirit, and find comfort in the company of those who cared for her.
