We regret to announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Vernon Douglas MacKenzie of Birch Hill Seniors Apartments, Stellarton, NS, on September 24, 2025.
Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late Charles Garfield MacKenzie and Mary (Morrison) (MacKenzie) Kehoe on May 29, 1942.
Vernon lived in Mississauga, Ontario for a number of years where he worked for Ford Canada. Upon returning to New Glasgow, he worked at Trenton Works and finished his work life at the NSCC in Stellarton in maintenance. Vernon was very social and gathered many friends along the way. He will be missed.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Charles Garfield MacKenzie, and his stepfather, James Kehoe.
He is survived by his daughter Cindy (Jeff) Dixon and family, Calgary, many nephews and nieces, and chosen family Glen and Kathy MacGregor, McLellans Brook.
He will be missed by his coffee buddy and friends at the Birch Hill Seniors. A special thank you to Debbie, Eleanor, and Faye for their friendship with Vernon.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a graveside service at Castle Hill Cemetery in McLellans Brook on Saturday, November 1 at 11 am, followed by a reception in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, 256 King Street, New Glasgow.
Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
