It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Bill Ervin. William (Bill) Donald Ervin died on July

3, 2025 after a lengthy journey with cancer that he faced with strength, humour and grace. Bill

persisted through his decline and lived life to its fullest as long as he was able. He never paid

attention to the negative and what he couldn’t do, rather his energy was focused on what he could

do.

Bill was predeceased by his parents George and Myrtle Ervin and brothers Randall and Barry Ervin,

mother-in-law Adeline Smith and many pets who he loved over the course of his life.

Bill is survived by partner and love of his life for 41 years Kathy (Kate) Smith. Bill maintained a loving relationship with his niece Ann Levangie throughout his life. He is also survived by his brothers Bruce (Janet), Greg (Barb), his loving sisters Brenda Levangie and Wendy Williams (Donald), and sisters in law Joan and Christine. Bill had a special relationship with his sisters-in-law Karen Delaney and Sandy Smith and brother-in-law Dale Paris. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Throughout his cancer journey Bill would often remark about how he could “feel the love” from those around him.

Bill lived his entire life in Black Point Nova Scotia where he would spend hours walking the beach

with his dogs and collecting rocks, shells, driftwood and anything else that caught his eye. He loved

nothing more than being outside and tending to his property and simply being in nature.

Bill had twinkly blue eyes, the absolute best smile, but if left to his own devices was a fashion

disaster. Bill did not care about things; Bill cared about people and relationships. Bill was a genuine

friend and was one of the funniest humans on the planet. Bill’s appetite for food was legendary and

his sister Brenda was always happy to accommodate.

Bill was a humble guy who flew under the radar. He was a closet musician and was better than he

ever gave himself credit for. Bill was an avid sports fan. He played gentleman’s hockey and softball

in his younger years.

Bill was self-employed for many years as “The Tile Guy” but the last 10 years of his working life were

his best, at Sumac Farms. This was a joy for Bill and not a job. Sumac Farms combined his love of

animals, nature, hard work and most importantly great people who became wonderful friends and

his work family.

Bill and Kate are so appreciative for the level of care that Bill received and would like to thank all of the “beautiful people” (Bill’s words) that were part his care including, those with Cancer Care Nova

Scotia, the Chemotherapy Unit, the Palliative Care Program and the Palliative Care Unit at the

Aberdeen Hospital. Bill and Kate are so thankful for their work families at Sumac Farms and

Continuing Care for their amazing love and support through their journey. Kate and Bill are also

incredibly grateful for the unwavering support of their friends and family.

There will be a visitation on Friday July 11, 2025 from 4-7pm at H.W. Angus Funeral Home in New

Glasgow. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.

It is requested that there be no flowers, but donations can be made to the SPCA (Pictou County) or to the Aberdeen Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care Unit)
