Obituary of Shirley Isabella Pettipas
Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Pettipas, Shirley Isabella
The family of Shirley Pettipas age 92, of Fall River and formally of Trenton, Nova Scotia , are deeply saddened to announce her passing on July 3, 2025 at St Vincent's Nursing Home Halifax.
Born in Trenton on Aug 27, 1932, Shirley was the eldest daughter of John and Eva (Barnard) Roy . Shirley is survived by her eight children: John Charles (Darlene), Gordon (Ellen), Terry, Rose (Wayne) O'Hagan, Kenneth (Sharon), Sherry (David) McBride, Anthony (Helen), Eva (Kevin) Hislop. "Nanny" will be greatly missed by her 14 grandchildren and 16 greatgrandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Douglas and sister Irene.
It was at a Trenton dance, as a teenager, that Shirley met and married the "love of her life" Chuck Pettipas. He built a home for them there, where they raised their large family of eight children. Shirley was a very busy Mom, and one of our most common and favorite memories are of her kneading the dough in a large tub every morning to make bread. Shirley was also an avid reader and instilled the love of reading into all us children. Shirley loved to attend book club with her daughter Rose. After Chuck's passing in 2018 Shirley's daughter Eva invited her to live with her family in Fall River. Shirley was very happy and well loved and cared for there, as Eva, Kevin, Alex and Brie doted on her.
Visitation will take place at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home 256 King St, New Glasgow on Tuesday, July 8 at 1 pm with the Funeral Service to follow. Burial will be held at the Christ The King Cemetery in Trenton.
We have to thank the staff at St Vincent's Nursing Home for the care they provided to Shirley. Also a special thank you to Chaplain Debbie Macdonald, who grew up just down the road in Trenton from Shirley. She spent many hours keeping mom company at the nursing home, listening to Mom's favorite music with her, and going over memories of life in Trenton.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. A reception will follow the service at the Plymouth Fire Hall 4667 East Side Rd. Plymouth ,everyone is invited to attend.
