Obituary of Christopher James Mannion

Please share a memory of Christopher to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Christopher James Mannion of Amity Lane, Westville, on June 7 at the Aberdeen Hospital. Christopher was born in Belfast, Ireland on March 11, 1945 to Christopher and Frances “Pearlie” Mannion. He was a devoted Catholic, and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Chris worked for many years as a shipper receiver of medical supplies, and later went on to work at the Aberdeen Hospital as a commissionaire. He was the former secretary and member of the Stellarton Fire Department, and also volunteered at the Pictou County Food Bank. Let me first start and say that Chris was a fine man. Honorable, decent, loving, kind soul. What a blessing for me to have spent 31 wonderful years together with this special man. How lucky I was. We were best friends and with his wonderful sense of humor we laughed a lot together. He was a simple man who showed respect and love to all. He was a wonderful father to his two sons, Seamus and Kevin. A great grandfather to his grandchildren Taylor, Ashleigh, Grayson and Fiona. He was also wonderful to my two children and treated them as his own. We loved to travel and ended up on six continents – beauty everywhere if only we could make peace with each other. We both loved books and could sit quietly together and read for hours. I will miss him terribly. Christopher is survived by his wife Diana; sons Kevin (Jessica) [Newmarket, On] and Seamus (Leslie) [Cary, NC] ; stepson Michael (Leigh) McKeigan [Truro]; grandchildren Taylor and Ashleigh [Cary, NC], Grayson, Fiona [Newmarket, ON]; step-grandchildren Zander, Luke, and Laila McKeigan [Truro]; sisters Eileen, Kathleen, Rita, and Roseleen Mannion, and Brenda (Tony) [Ireland]; brothers Patrick (Theresa) [England], Gerry (Teresa), and Kieran (Marie) [Ireland]; and sister-in-law Maria [Ireland]. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Diurmuid. Memorial Mass for Chris will be held on Monday, June 16 at 2pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Church with Father Ibeh MacDonald officiating. Burial will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, with a reception following at the church hall. Donations in memory of Chris may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Parkinsons Foundation.
