Ross, or Duncan Ross MacDonald, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at 97 years old at Aberdeen hospital . Born in Thorburn, Nova Scotia, on April 25, 1928, Ross leaves behind a legacy of authentic ministry, musical talent, and cherished family moments. Ross made history as the moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Canada ordaining the first woman Presbyterian Minister, in 1965. After pursuing a career in teaching he attended theological studies at McGill University, he dedicated his life as a Presbyterian Minister. His ministerial journey took him to congregations in Pembroke, Rodney, and Martintown, Ontario, Montreal, QC, as well as Spring Hill, Upper Musquodoboit, and Dean, Nova Scotia. He retired from active ministry in 2000. While his professional life was dedicated to faith, Ross had a vibrant personal life filled with passions and strong family bonds. He shared a love for the outdoors, cottage life, and often enjoyed fishing and hunting trips with his brothers, Earle and Burns. His musical talents brought joy to many; he was known for singing duets with his wife Nancy and skillfully playing the violin and mouth organ. To many nieces and nephews, he was a special and cherished Uncle Ross, or old blue eyes. Ross was predeceased by his son Paul and his wife Nancy. He is survived by his children, Ruth and David MacDonald and son- in -law Pierre Bougie. Ross is now reunited with his beloved wife, Nancy MacDonald, who entered rest at Brockville on May 4, 2009, in her 76th year. Nancy, who was an integral part of Ross's life, and his youngest son, Paul MacDonald his youngest son entered rest on November 2, 1982, at 18 years old. Ross’s life was a testament to his fun, witty and kind spirit, unwavering faith, and deep love for his family and community. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. A special thank you to Aberdeen Hospital, VON, Careforce Home Care, and his caregivers. The family wishes to have a private burial and celebration of life at a future date.
