Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Charles Weir 1951 – 2025 John Charles Weir, 73, of Woodburn Road, Pine Tree, Nova Scotia, passed away suddenly in the early morning of June 1st, 2025, at the cherished Weir family farmhouse—built in 1835 and restored lovingly with his own two hands. A man of great kindness, wild curiosity, and an even wilder laugh, John lived life fully, humbly, and always in service to others. He is survived by his beloved wife and partner-in-everything, Barbara, by his mother Elsie, whom he cherished deeply and kept close throughout his life, and his special siblings Donna Humphreys (late husband Sandy) and Terry Weir (Jennifer). He was predeceased by his father, Donald Weir, a man he idolized and reminisced about often. A proud and present father, John poured time and heart into raising his children. John leaves behind children he was endlessly proud of: daughters Melanie Weir, Marjorie Weir (David), Jourdan Vincent-Weir (Alex), step-daughter Lori Hecimovich (Shaun), sons Matt Weir (April), “Little John” Weir, Step-Son Chris Hecimovich, and Son-In-Law Stuart MacLean. He was “Papa John” to six grandsons—Rahshawn, Charlie, Ben, Keelan, Lewis, and Chris—and four granddaughters—Kenzie, Brooke, Islay, and Ella—as well as his first great-grandson, Kai. He also delighted in the lives of his nieces Karen, Kathryn, Hannah, and nephews Blair, Andrew and Donald. John loved most sports, but rugby was special in his high school heart. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from King's College and the University of Waterloo, then went on to a varied and colourful career—working at Michelin and Trelleborg, launching entrepreneurial ventures, working with local construction crews, all while later restoring his treasured farmhouse and cottage by the sea. Always with “Barbie-Gail” by his side, he built more than structures—he built memories, stories, and deep connections. In the 1990s, he served as a Cadet Leader and Captain with the 219 Royal Canadian Army Cadets, continuing a life of quiet leadership and mentorship. He was a true woodsman—happiest behind the farmhouse at his private mill, in the woods with a rifle, or on his tractor. He also found joy as a pilot, boater, motorcyclist, camper-hauler, and expert tinkerer. Whether in the air, on the water, or under the hood of a half-rebuilt project, John brought ingenuity and “can-do” wherever he went. A self-taught “McGyver,” he could fix anything—except maybe his craving for 100 Pipers Scotch, which he hunted down in every country he visited. In a life filled with adventure, one favourite memory remains iconic: the day John drove his motorcycle to his private plane, strapped in his “Barbie” (Barbara), and took her flying. It was a classic John day—extraordinary, unforgettable, and somehow still completely him. Above all else, John was a good man. He said yes when others said maybe, gave when others paused, and laughed harder than anyone in the room. He was a man of service, a man of love, and a man who made ordinary days feel like bucket list adventures. He will be deeply missed—but never forgotten. His laugh echoes in the trees, and his kindness is in the hearts of everyone lucky enough to have known him.
