It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Husband and Father, Percy Andrew Pellerine (77), who passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Percy was born and raised in Lourdes/Stellarton where he resided for his entire life raising his family. He was a skilled carpenter and a master in his trade for over 50 years with an unparalleled work ethic. You’d be hard pressed to drive down any street in Pictou County that didn’t have a house that Percy built, and his name in the industry was linked to excellence. Percy could tackle any project, from building doll houses and furniture for his Daughter Lyn during childhood, and closer to his retirement began crafting beautiful furniture. Percy was also the proud co-owner of two large apartment buildings in Stellarton, which he built. Drive just past the tracks near Sobeys, and you’ll see one of the buildings dawning his name…”Percy’s Place”…a surprise tribute from his partner and longtime friend, Donnie Sexton, who became more like a brother to Dad and mentored him in his transition from carpenter to business man, providing him financial security in his retirement…the family is forever grateful for Donnie’s generosity…he was a cherished friend to Percy.
Percy was a family man first, and worked hard his entire life to provide for his family. He was a long time member of the Pictou County Antique Car Club and cherished his 4th “baby”, a 1982 burgundy Buick Lesabre. He toured the province with his wife Joan and regularly attended car shows…you would often see Percy in the driveway shining up his pride and joy. Percy was also an avid softball player in his younger years, helping his Lourdes team to many championships. His love of sports also extended to hockey and he spent countless hours in his family driveway playing road hockey with his sons and the entire neighborhood…there was always a game happening in the Pellerine driveway and it remains a fond memory for many neighborhood kids. Mom loves telling the story a youngster knocking on the door asking, “can Percy come out and play?”.
Percy was the epitome of a hard working, devoted family man, and that forever remained his priority. Married to Joan for 56+ years, their relationship was like no other and it was a rarity to even see them argue. His own upbringing was troubled, and it took Mom’s devotion and strength to teach him how to love, and their union provided a safe and happy home for their children. Percy worked extremely hard to provide for his family and always ensured we had a beautiful home…for many years, Dad would finish a hard day of work, eat a quick supper, then proceed to build our family homes, working until daylight disappeared. Mom’s devotion and commitment to Dad during his illness was nothing short of selfless and inspirational, and we admire her all the more for that.
Percy is pre-deceased by his Mother (Margaret Perrin), Father (Clarence), brothers (Danny and Wilbert), and Sister (Eileen).
Percy is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joan (Fitt), son Mike (Earla), Daughter Lyn (Scott), son Kevin (Crystal), Grandchildren Michaela, Ryan, Daniel, Willow, Katlin, Kyle, Cody, Kyla, Tyler, Aiden, and Cole, and 9 Great Grandchildren. Additionally, his Sister Kathy Otter (Wayne), and brothers Wolfred (Dorris), and Mike.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Valley View Villa who cared for Percy for the past two years during his battle with Lewy Body Dementia, a harsh and unforgivable disease. Also a sincere thank you to the Nurses at the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital who helped the family navigate this difficult time with grace and kindness. A special thank you is also extended to his Sister, Kathy Otter whose love and dedication to her brother has been a godsend…she is an angel and a saint…we love you.
Percy was loved by all that knew him, and he will be dearly missed.
