Obituary of Betty Gertrude MacKenzie

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Betty (Cameron) MacKenzie on May 19, 2025 at the age of 93. She died peacefully under great care in the ICU of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, NS. She was predeceased by her husband John Fred MacKenzie and son Earl Arthur MacKenzie (Sudbury). She is survived by sons Frederick (Karen) and Ian (Claire), grandchildren Benjamin and Carley, and daughter-in-law Cynthia MacKenzie (Sudbury), and many loved and cherished nephews and nieces across Canada and the US. Mom was a lifelong and proud resident of Stellarton and member of Sharon St. John United Church. She served over the years as an Elder, Sunday school teacher, UCW and choir member, CGIT leader, and lead Bible studies in her home. She was a much loved school teacher starting her career in a one room schoolhouse in MacPherson’s Mills and for many years at GR Saunders Elementary School in Stellarton. She was known for her bright greetings, warm smile and compassionate heart. Her greatest joy was being with her family and her many friends. Mom loved being with people and it was these interactions where she shone the brightest. She made time for others whether meeting them for the first time, or a lifelong friend. Never judgmental and always leading with love, Mom made an impact on anyone who came within her presence. Visitation will be held at H.C MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel in Stellarton on Sunday May 25 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral will be held at Sharon St. John United Church (Stellarton) on Monday May 26, at 11am, with an informal reception to follow in the Church Hall. Donations in Betty’s memory can be made to Diabetes Canada or Sharon St. John United Church. Mom’s greatest lesson was to be kind to everyone you meet and always lead with love.
