Obituary of Kenneth Darrell Rushton

Please share a memory of Kenneth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kenneth Darrell Rushton made it to 80 due to sheer stubbornness. He lived life on his own terms and died the same way in Green Hill from an aneurysm on the morning of May 18th at his computer with the music blaring. After having many conversations with friends and family over his last 2 days, he left this world to rest upon the wind at the Green Hill look off. Ken was born on March 21, 1945 to Elsie and Merle Rushton from Westchester, Nova Scotia. He was one of 13 children, five of who remain, mourning their loss. After graduating high school in 1964, Uncle Kenny became a linesman with the telephone company. His entrepreneurial spirit kept calling and he soon became his own boss at the Fina in Alma, eating many hot hamburger sandwiches at James Diner. He went on to own Ken Rushton Services on Foord Street, Stellarton, a Petro Canada and convenience store. He had plenty of side gigs including plowing snow, car sales and general buying and selling. Along with his love of music, playing anything with strings, he enjoyed telling funny stories about his winter excursions in Florida and his “Claude ‘n I” adventures. No one laughed any harder at his stories than he did. Dad married Sandra Piers and went on to have three children, Kelley (Robert) Murray, Karey (Richard) Fleming and Kent (Holly) RUSHTON. He was known as Ump by his grandchildren Marcus Fleming, Craig and Jordan (Brady) Murray. He had very close relationships with many of his family members. Anne and David MacDonald, his niece and nephew were his Earth Angels. As per his wishes, there will be no service. Cremation has taken place. A Hoedown/celebration of life full of guitars and music will take place on Saturday, May 24 from 2 pm - 4pm at the Truro Legion lounge. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the
Pictou County Roots for Youth Society. Kevlar Kenny’s favourite music was by Merle Haggard and Running Kind was his favourite song, the lyrics of which told his story…… I was born the runnin' kind With leavin' always on my mind Home was never home to me at any time Every front door found me hopin' I would find the back door open There just had to be an exit For the runnin' kind Within me there's a prison Surrounding me alone As real as any dungeon with its walls of stone I know runnin's not the answer Yeah, but runnin's been my nature And a part of me That keeps me movin' on I was born the runnin' kind With leavin' always on my mind Home was never home to me at any time Every front door found me hopin' I would find the back door open There just had to be an exit For the runnin' kind I was born the runnin' kind With leavin' always on my mind Home was never home to me at any time Every front door found me hopin' I would find the back door open There just had to be an exit For the runnin' kind Donations may be made to Pictou County Roots for Youth by etransfering donate@pcrootsforyouth.ca, noting that it is in Ken's memory.
