Obituary of Jean Mercer
Please share a memory of Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear sister, Jean Mercer, of Bay Roberts and formerly of Hillsvale, Nova Scotia. Jean passed on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at the age of 73 years with family by her side at the Carbonear General Hospital.
Jean was predeceased by, her partner of 33 years, Tim Bartlett (March 2022); parents Roy and Bertha Mercer; father-In-Law David Bartlett.
She leaves to mourn her sister and care-giver, Marjorie. Brothers: Gerald (Carmen) and Leland (Joan). Nephews: Craig (Kerry Lynn) & Trevor (Janet). Niece: Katie (Mark Callahan).
Great Nieces: Morgan, Keira, Nyla & Peggy. Also her mother-in-law: Esther Bartlett and Tim’s siblings: Anne (Ralph) Sanderson, Doug (Stacey), Susan (Terry) Langdon, Melodie Lambardo and Edward (Ingrid) Lambardo. Cousins: Cyril (Mae) Boone, Don (Joyce) Boone
And Nova Scotia cousins: Marlene Simms, Margie Raymond, Wayne Greene, Brian Greene and Kevin Greene.
Jean was an independent and determined individual who valued the friendship of many. Special friends, Gloria Bowes and Brenda Collins remained friends since high school and Jean appreciated their frequent phone calls. Ruth Mercer and Merle Mercer spent many weekends visiting Jean and Marjorie and were their travel buddies for over thirty years.
During Jean’s 36 years, while living in Nova Scotia, she found many friends particularly from her workplace, PPG Industries, and fellow crafts people in various quilting guilds where Jean found like-minded people who were also “obsessed” with quilting. Jean continued her quilting passion when she moved back to Bay Roberts and joined the Pigeon Inlet Quilters Guild. There Jean reconnected with valued friends such as Sharon Quinlan and Jennifer Mercer. Jean took much pride in the creations that she made and generously donated or gifted most of her work. She enjoyed this activity very much and looked forward to shopping for materials even though she had much more than she could ever use.
Since October 2019, Jean had some serious health issues and she was thankful of the various health care providers that helped her through her struggles. Particularly thanks to Dr. R. Humber, Dr. S. Martin, and Dr. M. Andrews for their medical assistance. A special thank you, as well, to her home care worker, Nikki Lush.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends at Slade’s Funeral Home, L. T. Stick Drive, Bay Roberts on Friday, May 20: 2-5 P.M. & 7-9 P.M.
Interment will take place Tuesday, May 23, 2025 at 11 A.M. from St. Matthew’s Anglican Cemetery, Bay Roberts. In lieu of flowers, as expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in her loving memory to a charity of ones choice.
