Obituary of Kallen Daniel MacKinnon
Please share a memory of Kallen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
“Only those who dare, truly live”
For 17 years, we’ve been blessed with the gift of Kallen Daniel MacKinnon. A big brother who loved and protected, a son who challenged his parents, a friend who stayed loyal and the guy with a passion for pushing the limits. On June 14th, 2007, he came into this world at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, and in collective surrealness, the family lost him on May 1st, 2025.
Kallen was the first to instigate a crazy adventure and follow it up with “you go first”. He enjoyed his BMX, wasted no time upgrading to street bikes, and it is worth noting Kallen could not be beat on the go kart tracks. He had a heart for animals, where his compassion shone through caring for his dogs and a multitude of pets from chickens to bearded dragons. He enjoyed being on the lake, his watches, boots and especially bacon. Kallen found purpose in being a friend.
He had an aversion to school accompanied by a drive for achieving his goals. His sights were set on making money and he was able to prove his dedication to employment through a role within Walmart, where he was recognized as employee of the month.
Kallen was his own hero, persevering with courage throughout all life brought him. He is resting in eternal peace.
He is survived by his brothers Jaxon MacKinnon and Bentley MacKinnon, parents Lindsay MacKinnon, and Jacob and Nikki Larkham, siblings Carson, Brayden and Brooke, maternal grandparents Janet and Jamie MacKinnon, paternal grandparents Mary Prest and Stephen (Melanie) Larkham, aunts Jennifer Fleet, Kayla MacKinnon and Tracey Truly, uncles Colin Fleet, Michael Larkham and Jason Nickerson, cousins Ethan, Hayden, Olivia, Brynley and Layla, Godmother and special friends Janeen and Shauna-Rae Johnson.
He was predeceased by uncle Ricky Ehler and uncle Justin MacGillivary.
To honour Kallen’s life if you are a parent, stay supportive, if you are a friend, stay loyal. If you are someone with goals, stay focused and achieve. Most important, if you know Jaxon and Bentley cover them with love and respect.
The family want to express their heartfelt gratitude to RCMP rescue divers, Ground Search and Rescue, as well as first responders.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 8th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the HW Angus Funeral Home. The funeral will be held on Friday, May 9th at 2pm from the Union Presbyterian Church in Thorburn with John Reeves officiating.
Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to local Ground Search and Rescue.
