Obituary of Donna Marie (KIrk) Howard

The family of Donna Marie (Kirk) Howard are sad to announce her passing, which occurred peacefully at Willow Lodge Nursing Home in Tatamagouche on April 23, 2025. Donna was the second of five children born to Everett and Ruth (Preston) Kirk, of Aspen, Guysborough County. Born on December 6th, 1953, Donna spent her youth enjoying family and friends at home & school. Donna worked as a care companion for the elderly in their homes for a number of years. She met and married Peter Howard of Pictou County in 2005. They spent their married life living on Kirk Avenue, Stellarton in a small two-storey home they loved. Donna and Pete enjoyed camping at the Howard family cottage and enjoyed Pete’s passion of antique cars. They could often be seen at Antique Car Shows, sporting around Pictou County in Pete’s 1979 Chevy Malibu. Following Pete’s death from ALS in 2011, Donna moved into an apartment complex on Westville Rd. She put all her love into her special cat, Callie and had many friends. As time progressed, Donna became more disabled herself, having to move into Willow Lodge Nursing Home in 2020. She loved the home and staff and often referred to them as family. Donna was predeceased by her parents, Everett and Ruth Kirk, her husband, Peter Howard and her sister, Nancy (Kirk) MacLellan, as well as uncles and aunts, especially her aunt Agnes MacDonald, who she talked to daily on the phone. Donna was also predeceased by her first cousins, Cheryl Paynter and Kirk Whidden. Donna is survived by brothers, Jim (Peggy) Kirk; Brian Kirk; sister Elizabeth (Kirk) Device; sister-in-law, Paula Kirk, nieces and nephews and cousins. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service for the late Donna Howard will be held on Saturday, April 26 at 2 pm at Kirk Memorial United Church, Aspen with Rev. Derek Elsworth officiating. The family will receive visitors from 1 P.M. until service time on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the care and direction of H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Family committal will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Stellarton.
