Please share a memory of Harriet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear sweet mother, Hallie, on April 5th, at the amazing age of 108. Hallie was born on February 19th, 1917, in Merigomish, Pictou County, to parents George and Letitia Patterson. Hallie was an active member in the United Church Youth Organizations in Merigomish before moving to Ottawa to marry Bob before he was deployed overseas during World War Two. After war duties, they moved to Halifax where they brought up their four children. After 30 years, they moved back to Stellarton. They enjoyed many winters in Florida and summers at the cottage in Heather Beach. Mum was a wonderful homemaker and hostess. She welcomed friends and family to share in her delicious cooking and baking. Bridge nights were very special. Hallie enjoyed time away from home when she worked part time at Sears and Eatons, where she also made more special friends. Hallie had resided at the Gladstone Berkeley for 12 years. Because of the need for more care, she moved to Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home at the age of 107. We wish to thank her many caregivers for looking after our mum over these many years. Special thanks to Margaret K, Margie G, Mary, Tina, Jazz, Janice, and JC. She is survived by her four children Robert (Susan) Conway of Dartmouth, Dianne (Vern) Shaffner of Halifax, Lynn Henderson of Balfron, and Alan Conway of Bible Hill. Hallie also had eleven grandchildren, Kenny and Bobbi Jo, Jonathan and Matthew, Luna, Jason, Crystal, Maria, Laura, Shad, and Emma. She had 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her special niece Carol MacDonald and nephews Doug, Jackie, and Harold Patterson. Besides her parents, Hallie was predeceased by her husband Robert Lewis, brothers Jack and Ern, sisters Laura, and sister-in-law, Florence. As per her request, cremation has taken place. There will be a graveside service in Riverview Cemetery in Merigomish at a later date. Donations in Hallie’s name may be made to the Riverview Cemetery or to a charity of your choice.
