Obituary of Joan Elizabeth MacDonald

Joan Elizabeth MacDonald, Marsh Street and formerly of 168 Fraser St. New Glasgow died suddenly at the Glen Haven Manor on March 30th, 2025. Born on September 30th, 1930, in Charlottetown PEI she was the daughter of the late Earl and Mary (Murphy) Ranahan. Mom was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She had great sense of humor and was an amazing storyteller. In younger days Mom was an exceptional swimmer, dancer and bowler and still has her bowling gear from her twenties. After marriage she was a homemaker and later took on the role of a caregiver for children and later the elderly. She was a beautiful cook, baker and hostess. Mom enjoyed company, country drives. her daily phone calls and yearly visits to the Island to see her best friend, Diana. She was a loyal bingo player for many years, enjoyed outings and just spending time with Amanda. Mom is survived by son Michael and Patricia (Savage) Steele of Barrie, Ont., daughter Bonnie L. MacDonald of New Glasgow and granddaughter Amanda N. MacDonald Dartmouth, NS. She is also survived by a brother Bill (Donna) Ranahan, McLellan’s Brook and sister Mildred Ranahan, New Glasgow. In laws Elmer (Barb) MacDonald, Calgary, AB, Shirley MacDonald Kingston, Ont. Ethel MacDonald, Valley View, several cousins, nieces and nephews. Special nephews Larry and Ronnie MacDonald and their families, St. Stephen NB. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Donald J. (Donnie) MacDonald, sons William P. (Billy) MacDonald and Ronald James in infancy, 8 brothers and 2 sisters has well as a niece and several nephews. Cremation will take place and there will be no visitation at her request. A public graveside service will be held in June at Lorne Street Cemetery, on a day and time to be announced. "Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure.
