Obituary of Millan James MacDonald

Please share a memory of Millan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Millan James MacDonald, age 66 of Stellarton NS, on March 7, 2025. Millan discovered his love of painting at the age of 16, and by 17, knew he wanted to pursue it as a career. He began sharing artwork at the local radio station and decorating the walls of the nearby elementary school. Before long, many people in town were reaching out to him for custom pieces, and his work became a beloved part of the community. Growing up on Victoria Ave., he was incredibly proud to light up the big Christmas tree in their yard each year, a tradition that brought much joy and connected him to neighbours. Millan was incredibly proud of his daughter Jillian, son Benjamin, and his grandchildren. He took joy in hearing about their lives, was always eager to get the latest updates on their sports accomplishments, and couldn’t have been prouder. He was a huge fan of the Chicago Blackhawks. He loved spending time at the Stellarton ball field and the rink, cheering on local athletes and soaking in the camaraderie of the games. His passion for sports and hometown was evident to anyone who knew him. He was known for quick wit, great sense of humour, and kindness. Millan had an ability to make people laugh and feel at ease. He was always ready with a joke to brighten someone’s day. His fun-loving spirit and genuine nature made him a friend to many. He shared a special bond with his womb mate, twin sister Margaret and they were there for each other through thick and thin. He was son of the late Millan and Pearl MacDonald. He is survived by daughter, Jillian Kennedy (Mike) and their children, Lilly and Max; son, Benjamin MacDonald (Katie), and their daughter Lucy and soon-to-be son; twin sister, Margaret Archibald (Brian); and brothers, Donald (Martha), Duncan, the late Sandy (Joyce) MacDonald; and many relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. A special thank you to the VON staff and the doctors and nurses of the Aberdeen Hospital for wonderful care. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 14th from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, with the service following at 3:00 pm, at HW Angus Funeral Home in New Glasgow. Burial of ashes will take place at Brookside Cemetery, New Glasgow, with family immediately following. If desired, donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. Millan will be remembered for his love of family and friends, pride in his children and grandchildren, and the joy he brought with humour and kindness. He will be missed but never forgotten.
