Obituary of Edna Christene Fraser

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edna Christene Fraser, who passed away on March 3rd, 2025, at the Glen Haven Manor in New Glasgow. Born in New Town, Guysborough County on May 26th, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Archibald and Emma Jane (Cameron) Archibald. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In her younger years, Edna taught school, then married the love of her life, Fred Fraser, in 1950. They moved to Garden of Eden where they resided all their married life and together raised their four children. Edna was a woman of great faith who found joy and fulfillment through serving her church, community, family, and friends. She was a faithful member of Blair Presbyterian Church Garden of Eden, Sunlight Rebecca Lodge No. 110, Princess Orange Lodge, and the Red Cross. She was also a member of Stewart Memorial AMS, Blue Mountain Fire Auxiliary, and Garden of Eden Women’s Institute. Edna is survived by her children Ronald (Glenda), David (Carolyn), Karen, Rev. Milton A (Jeannette), and chosen daughter Val Manuel. She is also survived by her grandchildren Mark (Kathleen), Mike (Renee), Joel, Daniel, Zachary (Christina), Jessica, Kyle, and Hannah (Eric); great grandchildren Adrienne (Randy), Kareck (Ashlainah), Nick (Rayna), Olivia (Jo), and Ryley (Shae-Lynn), Eliza, Theo, Stella, Benjamin, Harrison, Clark, and Noah; great great grandchild Maven; sister-in-law Theresa Fraser; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Frederick Lewis, brothers Cecil (Margaret), Hugh (Ella), and Henry, sisters Margaret Cleveland, Marie (Allison) Illsley, Elsie (George F) MacDonald, Vi (Scott) Fraser, brother-in-law Gordon Fraser, and granddaughter Angelina. Visitation will be held from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Monday March 10th from HW Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. The funeral will be held Tuesday March 11th at 11am from Blair Presbyterian Church in Garden of Eden with Rev. Milton A. Fraser officiating, assisted by Rev. Michael Crichton and Mrs. Patricia Smith. A reception will be held at the Garden of Eden Community Centre. Family flowers only please. Donations in Edna’s name may be made to Blair Presbyterian Church, Garden of Eden Cemetery, or Muscular Dystrophy Canada. The family would like to thank Glen Haven Manor (Silver Creek Wing) for their kindness extended to our mum, also niece Elizabeth Archibald for her devoted care and the many family and friends who visited her throughout her stay.
