Please share a memory of Peter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With profound sadness and very heavy hearts we announce the passing of Peter Charles Johnson, age 65 on March 2, 2025. Peter passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow, NS. Peter was predeceased by his parents Donald and Florence Johnson, in-laws John and Margaret Whitty, and brother-in-law Randy Whitty. Left to cherish a lifetime of beautiful memories are his wife and best friend of 34 years Pauline and his beloved daughter Olivia, the light of his life. He was a guiding force and will be missed by his brother Michael (Valerie), sister Cathy (Dion), brother in-laws Brian (Gail), Barry (Helen), John (Karen), Robert (Marilyn), sister in-law Lisa (Darrin), and Pam. He will also be deeply missed by his nephews Steven, David, Matthew, Michael, Brent, Andrew, and Tyler. His nieces Sarah, Alicia, Crystal, Shauna, Kailey, and Taylor, all of whom were so blessed to have received his endless words of wisdom, encouragement and warmth- gifts which he shared right until his final days. He felt so fortunate to have a very special circle of friends who will forever cherish the countless memories they shared. Born in Campbellton, NB Peter moved with his family to St. John’s, NL at the age of one. Though neither Peter nor his parents were from Newfoundland, they all encompassed the values of what it is to be a Newfoundlander. Peter’s early years were filled with building forts, sailing snipes, and playing hockey. Naturally Peter used his love for building forts as a young boy to weave a life message or two into his many stories. Peter’s passion for the game of hockey came naturally as his father had the same passion and involvement on a local, national, and international level. Peter not only played hockey he also coached for many years. Whether playing or coaching his enthusiasm was infectious. His greatest joy came from coaching kids. From St. John’s, NL, to Greenville, SC, then onto France, Peter coached kids from all over the world. All of whom benefited from his endless words of encouragement, drive, and enthusiasm to become the best players on and off the ice. After earning his Engineering degree from Memorial University in Newfoundland Peter began working at Michelin in 1988 at the Pictou Plant in Nova Scotia. Over the next 37 years his unwavering commitment to excellence took him and his family across the globe. In 2005 he was transferred to Greenville, SC for five years then onto France in 2010, back to Greenville in 2013, then one last transfer back to where it all began Pictou County in 2019. Peter’s career was more than just a job; it was a calling. Peter’s dedication and commitment to Michelin and his métier were beyond measure. He made many contributions to Michelin over his career and one of his proudest moments was when he recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his impact globally to Michelin. His endless energy, boundless vision, and commitment inspired all who worked with him to make progress in ways they never thought possible. More than anything, Peter was a man of deep love. Love for his family, friends, and the simple joys that make life meaningful. Every moment with him was pure joy and laughter. Peter had a way of making people feel seen, heard, and loved. Every bonfire, rocket launch, backyard barbeque, sporting event, family vacation, friend vacation, birthday, and visit were an unforgettable memory. A diehard Philadelphia Flyers fan, Peter lived and breathed their victories and defeats, embodying the unwavering loyalty of a true fan. Our lives will be forever changed because he was in it. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Palliative Care Unit at Aberdeen Hospital, whose compassion, care and kindness brought comfort to Peter in his final days. The family would also like to acknowledge the medical staff of the Aberdeen and VG in Halifax for their excellent care over the past several months. A special thank you to his sister Cathy, her husband Dion, brother Mike, and sister-in-law Valerie for their unwavering love and round-the-clock care for Peter. We will truly be forever grateful. Flowers graciously accepted or donations can be made to a charity of your choice in Peter’s memory. To continue Peter’s legacy of kindness please consider donating blood, as Peter was blessed to receive blood donations from 22 generous donators. Visitation will be held on March 5th at 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm at HW Angus Funeral Home in New Glasgow. There will be a funeral service held on Friday, March 7th starting at 2:00 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Stellarton, NS.
