Obituary of Mary "Pearl" Hayden

Mary Pearl (Stewart) Hayden, 79, of Pine Street, New Glasgow, passed away February 26, 2025, at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. She passed peacefully surrounded by family. Born in New Glasgow, Pearl was the daughter of the late Sherman and Mary Stewart. Pearl was a resident in New Glasgow for most of her life. During her working years, she was an employee of Cornish’s in Trenton and then later worked at the R+K convenience store on East River Road. Pearl was greatly fulfilled by her work. She loved her customers, whom she all treated equal whether they were a child or an adult. In her free time, Pearl loved to ride her bike and take walks, eat blackberries, and was a devoted viewer of The Young and the Restless. She loved to laugh and was described by her family as being able to see the humour in any situation. Surviving is loving companion and caregiver for 25 years, Mel Oliver, her siblings: Donalda, Doug (Eileen), Steven; children Jim (Heather), Roxanne (Billy), David, Lynn, Bill (Stacey), Graham (Rochelle); 17 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; and Step-daughter Cathy. She was predeceased by her brothers Morris, Henry, Clarence, and her sister Hazel. The Family will receive visitors between the hours of 2:00 – 4:00 PM on Monday, and the funeral will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, both at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Pearl can be made to the Pictou County Palliative Care Society. The family would like to thank all of those at the fourth floor and Palliative Care at the Aberdeen Hospital for their dedication and care in their work.
