Obituary of Gerald Frederick Williams

Please share a memory of Gerald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gerald Frederick Williams - age 97, of Barney’s River Station, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2020 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, after a short illness. Born at Pushie’s Mountain, NS the third son of John Frederick and Georgina (Grant) Williams. Gerald was a life-long resident of Barney’s River Station. With the help of his family, and his Newfoundland caregivers, he was fortunate to be able to live in his own home until this past week. His family and his home meant everything to him. He was a dedicated member of the Barney’s River Presbyterian Church; the St. Andrew’s Society; Norton IOOF Lodge No. 6, New Glasgow and Hudson Masonic Lodge No. 77, Thorburn. Gerald served his country in the Second World War, with the West Novies Regiment. He saw active duty in Italy and Western Europe. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 59, Antigonish. Upon his return from the war, he married the love of his life Myrtle M. Jardine. They spent the next 53 years together. Gerald was a partner of Williams Brother’s Lumber Mill, with his brothers Grant and Lawrence, until 1978. He also was a partner in G&B Williams Enterprises Ltd with his son Bryan. Gerald enjoyed life, and there was no place on earth that could take the place of Barney's River. He was a gentle, patient, kind man, whose word was as good as a signed contract. His warm smile lit up a room. He was highly respected by his family, and everyone who knew him. He had a great sense of humour, and was always up for a good joke. He enjoyed a good game of 45’s and if he had a twinkle in his eye, chances were he had a good hand. He enjoyed the outdoors, and in his own words “a good horse”. He is survived by his sons Ronald Frederick (Bruce), Ottawa; Bryan George (Beverly), Barney’s River Station; Alexander Gregory (Pauline), Ottawa; grandchildren Jeff, Brad, Kelly, Sandra; 7 great-grandchildren; brother Elmer, Riverton; sisters Emily Donnelly, Riverton and Adell Keays, Moncton. He was predeceased by his wife Myrtle, brothers Lawrence, Grant and sister Margaret Fraser. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, arrangements to honour and celebrate his life will take place later when Gerald’s family and friends can safely gather again. Interment will take place in the Glen Bard Cemetery at that time. If desired donations in his memory may be made to Barney's River Presbyterian Church, Glen Bard Cemetery or to the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made at www.angusfuneralhomes.com
